Sadly, this is yet another story of extreme animal neglect that proves once again how cruel some pet owners can be.

When the staff at British Columbia SPCA were alerted of a dog that was mistreated for so long, they never assumed the situation could be so severe. The collar on the animal’s neck was so tight that it led for his head to swell several times its normal size. On top of that, he suffered from massive infection because the collar got embedded into the tissue.

The sight was one of the most disturbing they have ever seen.

Once the collar was removed using bolt cutters, the rescuers and the vets realized the situation was even worse than they assumed. The poor dog had an exposed trachea and jugular vein and had to be rushed into surgery right away. Everyone was hoping for the best and provided the animal with extensive care, but sadly, he died two days later.

The chief prevention and enforcement officer for the BS SPCA, Marcie Moriarty spoke of the case saying: “This kind of appalling neglect and cruelty is sickening and absolutely unacceptable in our society.”

The owners responsible of the dog’s suffering and passing were later identified as Anderson Joe and Melissa Tooshley of Duncan. They were both charged with animal cruelty. The public was hoping to see these cruel people behind bars, but that didn’t happen. Anderson got away with serving jail time and Tooshey received a one-year-suspended sentence. Both are banned from owning a pet ever again.
